Authentication,
COAs and our guarantee:
We compare each
autograph with known examples of the subject’s writing. There are extensive
reference books with reproduced examples (exemplars) of the writings of famous
people and experienced, reputable dealers have this reference material at their
command. Of course, there still may not be available exemplars for every
autograph, and in these cases we must use our best judgment. All certificates of authenticity (COAs) should be viewed only as expressing a best opinion
that the item that has been examined is authentic. These are therefore
certified opinions but ours are backed up by us with a guarantee that the buyer
will receive what was originally paid for the item (what we originally
received) if our evaluation was at fault. This guarantee is good forever and is
transferable from one person to the next (many dealers do not allow for
this). The buyer must have proof of
purchase or any refund provided is at our discretion. Items returned without a sales slip and/or
certificate of authenticity from us with proof of the amount paid will likely
be refunded at a wholesale rate if it can be proven to our satisfaction that
the item did indeed come from us. If you are not the original owner, to get a
full refund of the purchase price you will have to obtain this from the
original owner. StarMemories will only refund the
amount we received for the item.
Returns after
the first 7 (or 14 for online purchases) days from the original sale (what is
required):
We will quickly refund
money for items returned with the original sales slip and/or certificate of
authenticity from us and a letter from a recognized accepted authority stating
that the item purchased was not authentic.
We
do not accept PSA/DNA authentication or authentication by anyone with a
commercial relationship with PSA/DNA as a basis for a refund. We also can not accept opinions from JSA,
R&R, University Archives or anyone associated with them. In every case the authentication must be from
a recognized individual dealer (not third-party company)
and not associated with any of the companies mentioned above. Unfortunately, there may be others added to
this list, but we will work with you to find a reasonable authenticator if
requested (for reference – we subscribe to www.autographalert.com
in deciding which companies and/or individuals to exclude for authentication
purposes). Many of those excluded are
indeed reputable companies but it has been our experience that they often also
fail to properly authenticate known good items.
There is no
conflict of interest as we are not in any way associated with any
authentication company, although, of course, we do have friends and
acquaintances within the industry that we may recommend.
